South Africa roster for Canada friendly

We're still waiting on Canada's roster for their upcoming friendly with South Africa. But the South Africans, hosts of the 2010 World Cup, have released their roster for friendlies against the USA and Canada.

If you'd rather not click through, here's what it looks like:

It's a predominantly domestic lineup (18 of 21 players play on teams in South Africa) and I'll admit that I haven't heard of any of them. The slightly more well known players, like Steven Pienaar, Aaron Mokoena and Benedict McCarthy, were called for the USA friendly but seem to be left out of this one to give them a chance to get back to Europe early.

To be honest, I don't care much about the South African selections. Here are some players I want to see called up, and starting, for Canada.

Mike Klukowski
Of all of Canada's players who play at a reasonably high level, I feel we've seen the least of Klukowski. He's solid at defense, has a good left foot, and plays for the top team in Belgium. And he has been officially called up for this one, so that's good news:

Michael Klukowski is door de Canadese bondscoach opgeroepen voor de vriendschappelijke interland Zuid-Afrika - Canada, op 20 november in Durban.
He'll likely play on the left side. I imagine Jazic will be left at home to continue his barnstorming tour with LA Galaxy.

Rob Friend
You'll only need to take a brief glance through the last couple of posts to see that this man is on a tear. Playing in front of 40,000 or so weekly, he's scoring big goals with a big-time club that happens to be playing in the 2nd division in Germany. He hasn't yet demonstrated that scoring touch for Canada, but what better time to start?

Lars Hirschfeld
He's an obvious call up, I'm just using this as an excuse to mention that his Rosenborg team spanked Valencia twice in a row in Champions League.

Josh Simpson is back from injury. Can he win a place in Canada's roster?
Marcel de Jong has decided that as far as football is concerned he's Canadian, not Dutch. Will Mitchell call him?

Any roster thoughts? Leave a comment.

Update: Gerry Dobson seems to have an inside scoop. Apparently, Friend is out, Kenny Stamatopolous is in, and there is at least one uncapped player, perhaps De Jong.
