Dance Card Filling Up

You wouldn't know it if Canada's national association was your source for soccer news, but the schedule for the next few months is starting to fill up. We've already covered the Estonia friendly, and have been waiting with baited breath (whatever that means!) for word about the January camp, to be held somewhere in Florida.

But before we get to that, the important dates have been booked: the two-legged World Cup qualifier will open in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on June 15, at Saint Arnos Vale Playing Field in Kingstown. The return leg will take place in Canada, the next weekend, location TBA.
Cricket much?!

And while no official source has yet given any details about the January camp, word is trickling from various sources (and before you applaud our detective work, you should know that we cribbed this, and most of our 'scoops' from the Voyageurs boards).

You may know of our pal Issey Nakajima-Farran. Born in Canada, grew up in Japan, playing in Denmark. He has a little brother, named Paris (!) who shares the same resume, except for the part about being born in Canada. His club side, Naestved BK, had a little gem on their website which, being in Danish, is rather hard to understand.

Here are the key paragraphs:
The first paragraph explains that Paris has been called for the camp, to be held in Florida from January 21st, while the second paragraph lists a friendly against Caribbean giants St. Lucia on February 2nd, and another friendly against an as yet unnamed opponent on February 6th.

If you're keeping score at home, the first six months of '08 will likely include the following dates:
2 February 2008: Friendly vs. St. Lucia
6 February 2008: Possible friendly, opponent TBA
26 March 2008: Friendly in Tallinn, Estonia
15 June 2008: World Cup qualifier in Kingstown, St. Vincent and Grenadines
21-22 June 2008: World Cup qualifier vs. St V&G, somewhere in Canada
With a fall that is hopefully full of further qualifying matches, it looks like 2008 could be a good (or at least more busy) year to be a Canadian soccer fan, if that's possible.

Transfer news: Not exactly a high profile move, but after languishing on the bench with ADO Den Haag in Holland (behind sex tape star Stefan Postma, among others), Josh Wagenaar will be given a chance to languish on the bench with Toronto FC instead.

2008.01.16: The St. Lucia friendly confirmed by a more official source. Currently schedule for an unknown location in the USA. Also, the Wagenaar transfer above is not yet official.

Good news. Don't be so sure about Josh sitting on the bench with TFC. Between Sutton's injury record and Josh' longer term potential, I wouldn't be surprised if he plays a lot this year.
