V-Cup contest results: Week 5

Better late than never.

Week 4 featured drama in the decisive leg between Toronto and Montreal. The bonus week 5 match-up which featured the Whitecaps visiting Edmonton with an aggregate 1-1 scoreline proved even more dramatic.

Vancouver signaled their intent by fielding a lineup featuring many of their regular MLS starters. Edmonton countered with their own best XI.

An early moment of madness by erstwhile Eddies keeper Matt van Oekel led to a penalty goal for Pedro Morales, and this looked to prove decisive, as Vancouver controlled play for most of the game. Youngster Hanson Boakai provided a spark for Edmonton as a substitute, but the scoreline held until late in the 90 when fellow substitute Frank "the Tank" Jonke was fouled in the box, and Tomi Ameobi levelled with a penalty of his own.

The game looked set to be headed into an extra period until a Mattias Laba goal late into added time, aided and abetted by a confused looking van Oekel, let Vancouver steal the win. In the end, probably a fair result.

A predictable result, too, as many entrants had it almost exactly right.

Here are the standings heading into the final round. Expect to receive an email in the next few days requesting your predictions for August's final between Montreal and Vancouver.
